Adult Faith Formation

Adult Faith Formation programs at St. John the Baptist exist to provide meaningful experiences to the Church community in order to help deepen your relationship with Jesus, foster growth in your faith, and strengthen the bonds that unite us as a parish family.

It is the mission of St. John the Baptist to energize and engage parishioners to a deeper conversion of faith while being active in the life of the parish so that, being sent at the end of our liturgies, we may:

  • Know the value of the Gospel in our lives
  • Live by Gospel values
  • Possess the right tools to become bearers of the Gospel

Order of Christian Initiation (OCIA)

OCIA is an integral part of the mission of the Church and the formation of its members. Those who are looking to join the Catholic Church as new members or complete their sacraments of initiation rightfully undergo a period of formation and preparation. If you are interested in becoming Catholic, please contact the parish office at 812-490-1000. For a more detailed look at the process, click here.

Current/Upcoming Studies at SJB

The Practice of the Presence of God

Pope Leo XIV, originally Robert Prevost from Chicago, IL, was elected Pope on May 8, 2025. Many believed that an American Pope was impossible! As a priest in the Order of St. Augustine, a child of the Saint Pope John Paul II era, and a Bishop in Peru during years of terrorism, Pope Leo brings a unique perspective to his papacy.

This Lent, we invite you to join us in reading “The Practice of the Presence of God.” Pope Leo says, “it describes a type of prayer and spirituality where one simply gives his life to the Lord and allows the Lord to lead. And if you want to know something about me, that’s been my spirituality for many years…”

Copies of the book are available in the Narthex for free as a gift from the Parish (please take only one per family). Discussion sessions will be planned as we discover more about Pope Leo XIV and this simple, but profound practice together.
