Becoming Catholic

The word "catholic" means universal - and all are welcome here!

OCIA/Order of Catholic Initiation for Adults (previously known as RCIA)

The OCIA Process is the normative process by which non-Catholic individuals are welcomed into the life of the Catholic Church. The Process consists of a series of preparation, discernment and accompanying steps (called “Rites”) that take place over a period ranging from a few months to a few years, depending on the individual’s spiritual journey toward Jesus Christ. Properly engaged, this process leads individuals toward a profound personal relationship with Jesus Christ through spiritual, intellectual, moral, and community formation. The OCIA process is ideal for anyone who has never been baptized, as well as those baptized Christians who seek to enter full communion with the Catholic Church, but who may need a bit of practical review on what it means to be Christian. At St. John, we welcome people to this process whenever they are moved by the Spirit. The process generally culminates with the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil.

At times, special circumstances may call for arrangements that vary from this normal process. Please call the Parish Office at 812-490-1000 for more information.
