Way of the Cross - X. Jesus Is Stripped of His Garments
What a pitiable spectacle is this shameful stripping of Jesus! Ghastly wounds are reopened. Blood flows afresh. What shame would be mine if the evil were torn from my soul and the world saw my hidden sins! O Jesus, help me to know all my sins and confess them with deep sorrow and true humility.
Leader: The situation looked so attractive... so inviting. But there was a strange feeling present. It just didn't seem the right thing to do. Deep down inside we knew it was not right... they had even told us it was wrong... that it was a sin. We tried not to think of that... we tried to not even raise the question as to whether it was a sin or not. Everybody else was doing it... and it really wouldn't make any difference... we wouldn't get caught... no one would know. And so it happened... we knew we had sinned. It was then that we all understood... that in the Tenth Station, they tried to strip Jesus of His dignity.
Response: My Lord, I offer you all – whatever I possess, and more, my self. Detach me from the craving for prestige, position, wealth. Root out of me all trace of envy of my neighbor who has more than I. Release me from the vice of pride, my longing to exalt myself, and lead me to the lowest place. May I be poor in spirit, Lord, so that I can be rich in You.
