Way of the Cross - V. Simon Helps Jesus Carry His Cross
Although Jesus seems about to expire, He does not need — yet accepts — the help of Simon, since He wills to die on the Cross. Thus does He teach me charity and perseverance. O Jesus, I too will carry my cross patiently to the end and strive to lighten the cross of my fellow men.
Leader: It seemed that family life was becoming so demanding... always so much to do. For some reason it seemed that no one else was doing anything... I seemed to be the only one working. I seemed to be doing it all! Joy was gone from life... members seemed to be irritable... self-centered... selfish. Then we saw Jesus... and there was Simon helping Him to carry the cross. Then we knew what we had to do.
Response: Lord, make me realize that every time I wipe a dish, pick up an object off the floor, assist a child in some small task, or give another preference in traffic or the store; each time I feed the hungry, clothe the naked, teach the ignorant, or lend my hand in any way — it matters not to whom &mdash my name is Simon. And the kindness I extend to them I really give to you.
