Parish Library Materials Approval Process
-
Each item will be retrieved from the location labeled "new
donations". Place a note card inside and use it to make a brief
note or two and indicate whether or not you approve it, then sign and
date it. Return the item to the location labeled "first review".
-
After an item has been reviewed once, another committee member will retrieve
it from the "first review" location and follow the same process;
add a note if necessary, approve or disapprove it then sign and date the note
card. Place the item in the "second review" location. Follow this
process until either three or five committee members have reviewed the item,
based on the selection guidelines, moving each item along through the
"third review" and, if necessary, the "fourth review"
locations.
-
If the item is approved, the last reviewer should place it in the location
marked "Approved". If it is not approved, the last reviewer should
place the item in the location marked "Not Approved". If there is
disagreement among the committee members, the last reviewer should place the
item in the location marked "Pastor review". Father Joe or Father Ken
will make the final decision as stated in the guidelines.
-
If the item is part of a previously approved set or a publication that has been
previously approved, it does not need to be reviewed.
