On January 12, 2010 an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale struck near the Haitian capital city of Port-au-Prince. Tens of thousands have been killed and millions have been injured or left homeless in this impoverished nation.

Through the Haiti Parish Twinning Program, St. John Catholic Parish has been providing assistance to Haitians through Notre Dame de Lourdes parish in Grande-Bassin. Now, in the wake of this disaster, St. John parishioners are rushing to assist those who have been affected.
